Jun21Premiere of Planet Local: A Quiet Revolution
ONLINE. On World Localization Day June 21, Local Futures is releasing a new film - Planet Local: A Quiet Revolution (50 min).
Away from the screens of the mainstream media, the crude ‘bigger is better’ narrative that has dominated economic thinking for centuries is being challenged. As people work to protect and restore their local economies, their communities and the natural world, countless diverse initiatives are demonstrating a new path forward for humanity. It’s a path that localizes rather than globalizes, connects rather than separates, and shows us that human beings need not be the problem – we can be the solution.
Featuring activists from every continent alongside figures like Russell Brand, Noam Chomsky, Vandana Shiva, Helena Norberg-Hodge, Naomi Klein, Jane Goodall and Gabor Maté, _Planet Local: A Quiet Revolution _is a timely and compelling call to action.

Jun27Green classes: agroecology and localization 2022
Salim Dara and his team are hosting a week-long learning programme focusing on agroecology and localization at Solidarité Rurale's agroecological demonstration farm in Djougou, Benin. Throughout the week, 50 youth will learn about the need to promote and strengthen local economies to break the cycle of capitalism. Salim and the Solidarité Rurale team will engage youth in hands-on farming activities, introducing them to key sustainable land-management practices, from agroecology and agroforestry to the use of organic compost instead of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. They will also address the need to defend the sacred by protecting water, soil, and all living beings.
On Wednesday, June 29th, Solidarite Rurale will celebrate World Localization Day, with a special focus on local food. They will host discussions of the importance of local food and farming as a dignified livelihood, and how this ties in with the worldwide localization movement. Parents will join their children on this day, and the celebration will conclude with a local food feast under a sacred tree.June 27th - July 2nd, in person.
Organizer(s)Solidarité RuraleSalim Dara is revolutionizing agricultural education in Benin through a hands-on agricultural entrepreneurship program and holistic farming model. He founded the nonprofit education center Solidarité Rurale, an education center that provides a path for dignified land-based livelihoods for youth. The first goal: teach youth how to dream, to see the opportunities all around them, and to use available resources. The second: share agroecology skills to help them create jobs for themselves and others. -

Slow Down
To celebrate World Localization Day, we want to shed light on elements of the regional localization movement and show promising bidirectionally fruitful bridges between rural and urban areas.
This event will take place at Backstein Bakery in the urban garden of the Museum for Contemporary Art (GfZK). The garden and the museum are partners in the slow textile project "Self Experiment Linen" from lokaltextil. This small field was used for education, culture and exchange up through 2021, when lokaltextil created a canvas from the flax grown and harvested there. Now it is time to celebrate the handing over and transition of this space. Local, urban farming grew the base for a new piece of art. Artist Inga Kerber will paint the canvas with pigments from our dye plant gardens in Leipzig and Belgershain, and the fiber farming project will continue at the Belgershain Nursery.
On the day of the event, Inga will present a sea of self-cultivated "slow flowers" from both urban gardens and the rural Belgershain Nursery, with the opportunity to purchase bouquets.
Stephan Schürer will design floral foccacia with rural edible slow flowers from the Belgershain Nursery on urban dough, prepared and baked by Backstein.
Marthe Howitz, an artist and curator from Berlin, is creating a special "slow drink."
As part of the Fête de la Musique Leipzig and Midsummer Night, the event will conclude by turning up the music and dancing the localization idea until 10pm.
June 21st, 5pm - 10pm Central European Summer Time.
