Ohoka Friday morning Farmes Market
Celebrate World Localisation Day at our local markets on June 6! Ohoka Farmers Market on Friday mornings has been providing locals with local foods since 2009. We are located in Ohoka South Island of Aotearoa New Zealand.
2023Jun02Ohoka Friday morning Farmes Market
Ohoka Farmers Market on Friday mornings has been providing locals with local foods since 2009. We are located in Ohoka South Island of Aotearoa New Zealand. We operate all year with large markets in summer and small in winter. We celebrate the first market in June 2nd as our mid winter season. But every Friday is a great morning mid winter market occasion to share in the success of the localisation movement. We strongly believe resilient and resourceful communities are created around local food economies. Come and see us in action.
Organizer(s)Ohoka Farmers MarketMany of us are making different choices about what we eat, who we buy our food from and how we grow and make our food. Here in Ohoka we have been making that difference since 2009. This is something to celebrate! Over the decade and more the market has been a place where many different small food artisans and artisan crafters have gathered to sell their wares. After many years of centralised industrial corporate food production some of us became increasingly concerned that ‘conventional’ farming has in fact caused many wide ranging problems not just overseas, but right here in New Zealand. Farmers Market have shaken up the food system, and as a result today we can be confident that with customers support we can access the fresh, local, ethical, sustainable and nutritious foods from the markets. These food producers in particular are redefining and challenging the existing food system as are their customers. Together we are changing the mindset that has enabled the industrial food system to be the force that it has become. This is what food revolution looks like and it’s happening at a local level right here in the Waimakariri. -

11th Totnes Local Entrepreneur Forum
This annual community gathering (since 2012) is aimed at bringing into being a resilient, ecological, just, convivial local economy by creating a forum for local entrepreneurs to pitch their projects in the transition town of Totnes, UK.
2023Jun0811th Totnes Local Entrepreneur Forum
This annual community gathering (since 2012) is aimed at bringing into being a resilient, ecological, just, convivial local economy by creating a forum for 4 or 5 local entrepreneurs to pitch their projects to the Community of Dragons. Over 250 people have played the role of ‘community dragon’ and have made over 1000 ‘investments’. Join us on June 8th and participate in this annual gathering full of solidarity, reciprocity, and positive change. We’ll have lots of opportunity for new entrepreneurs – and old – to connect, build relationships with peers, supporters, investors.
Each year, we have slots for 4 or 5 entrepreneurs to pitch their projects to the Community of Dragons. This is a great opportunity to raise the profile of your venture, as well as to gain financial and or/non-financial investment and support. Our criteria for choosing which ventures pitch:
- enterprise is ethical, sustainable and appropriately local
demonstrates competence through business plan and/or track record - business model does not rely on donations or grant funding
‘investment’ required would allow venture to ‘get to the next level’ – investment could be financial and/or non-financial. - ideally would operate in one or more of the sectors identified in the Local Economic Blueprint – food, renewable energy, housing, health & care
- contributes to the long-term resilience of the community
- one slot is reserved for a youth-led enterprise.

Organizer(s)Totnes REconomy ProjectThe Totnes Reconomy Project, an initiative of Transition Town Totnes, was launched by a small group of enthusiastic community members. We wanted to reverse the negative economic trends affecting the town, but we also wanted to innovate. We wanted to inspire a new kind of economic regeneration that would create an abundance of opportunity for people to meet their needs, and to do so in ways that work with natural systems, are inclusive and fair, and that generally increase the well being of the entire community. These are aspirations, of course, but we have taken the first steps and good things are beginning to happen. - enterprise is ethical, sustainable and appropriately local

Our collaborative education is formed by different potentials and includes a plurality of knowledge. We don't believe in a single truth. We encourage everyone to search for one's potential so that together we can promote paths that create better conditions for life on the planet.
